DREAMS OF FUTURE PAST

Dare I dream so far ahead,  to dreams of a technology straight out of science fiction? If I do, I'm not the only one.  Many of us have had dreams and visions of a better world, a different world with faster means of travel.  Perhaps the science hasn't caught up to the dream yet, perhaps the technology is on the drawing board somewhere, but hidden from the world.  I'm not going to get into any conspiracy theories, but just daydreaming and speculating here, that someone somewhere may even now be working on a breakthrough that will allow faster travel than we have ever had, or even time travel, quantum jumping, wormholes and space bending.  I'm not an expert, I'm just a dreamer.  I'm not a great or famous person, just a woman who dreams of a better world for all of us, who tries to make the world a brighter, more loving and romantic place with my poetry, who now tries to use her writing talent to bring hope to politics, by sharing the goodness she's found in the Bernie Sanders grass roots movement, the Political Revolution, or what I call the Peaceful Revolution.

In this Internet Age, the era of Social Media, it's relatively easy to find just about anything to reinforce ideas, for good or bad.  Memes are a shortcut to this, sometimes silly, sometimes insulting, other times thought provoking or profound, and often poignant.  Videos can be used in the same way. I use both kinds of media in my literary art.  Here are a couple of things I found that emphasize the topic I've chosen to write about in this post, Dreams of the Future.

A NEW WORLD'S COMING

A NEW WORLD'S COMING
Yes , a new world's coming, revolution, too,
A brighter future, and hope for me and you,
A kinder, gentler America, none thrown under the bus,
Differences don't matter, because all are One of US.

God or Goddess, or secular, your choice,
This won't be a Theocracy, and all will have a choice,
Freely wear your pentacle, your cross, and hijab, too,
Freedom of religion's for pagans, Muslims, too.

College education will help make dreams come true,
And without tuition, for ALL, not just a few,
Imagine creativity, with all kinds of diversity,
Coming from halls of learning, with vibrant spirits burning.

Of course, it's not a free ride, but taxes will be fair,
The rich will still be wealthy, but made to pay their share,
And people will be healthy, with universal care,
When Wall Street Corporations are taken off welfare.

When income is more equal, new businesses will rise,
And with livable minimum wage, more customers will buy,
And homes will be affordable, no families on the street,
When loans are more available and banks cut down to size.

The world will be a safer place, from sea to shining sea,
When immigrants are welcome to visit you and me,
And if they decide to stay, then there should be a way,
A faster path to citizenship, than what we have today.

Now these are just a few ideas that came to me today,
My heart's yearning, creatively Berning, this dream won't go away,
Not just for me, for ALL of US riding this Magickal bus,
All the way to Washington, with Bernie leading the way.

AN OXYMORON?

I really hope the title of this blog, Peaceful Revolution,  won't prove to be an oxymoron.  I was looking at a video of the 1963 March on Washington.  There were thousands of people there, marching, singing, waving signs, and listening intently to inspirational speakers and dignitaries such as Martin Luther King, Roy Wilkerson, and Congressmen of the time.  It looked peaceful in the 20 minutes or so archival video.

Now, in this Political Revolution of 2016, another March on Washington is being planned.  But this is a more violent time, more guns running around, politicians inciting hatred, racism, bigotry, and belligerence, angry, frustrated people, and protestors at political rallies being beaten up.  So, I wonder, can there be a Peaceful Revolution?

Only one of the candidates for President, Bernie Sanders, was part of that March on Washington in 1963. He never lost that idealism, and has spent his life working for Civil Rights, human rights, in government positions from local level to Congress.

I'm just one of his supporters, one of his believers, trying to do my bit for this Political Revolution. I hope it will turn out to be a non-violent,  Peaceful Revolution, but perhaps I'm just a dreamer, imagining a better world, the one John Lennon sang about.

Times, They Are A-Changing

Although there will be poetry in this blog,  I feel an urge to expand it into more than just a poetry blog.  I plan to write serious articles, state my own opinions, and make this into a "Blogger for Bernie" effort, similar to what I did for President Obama during his 2008 campaign.

As I was thinking of a title for this post,  that old Bob Dylan song from the 60s Revolution came to mind:  The Times They Are A-changin

How appropriate this is now.  And now that I know how to embed videos in my blog, I will be adding music to this, too.

FOLLOW THE BERNING STAR

It won't be easy... good things never are,
But we have a choice, to use our voice,
And follow the Berning Star.

Some have already said, your revolution's dead...

But it's too soon, to sing a funeral dirge,
When all it might take is a mighty surge,
Of hearts on fire, overturning the fearful head.

It really upsets me when people say,
I love Bernie, but it's not his day,
When I go to vote, I'll vote shades of gray...
It's not a case of black or white,
But Hillary's a safer choice...

According to the media's voice.

But, if they are really Bernie fans,
They already know he's the best man,
And if they will only follow their heart,
Stop listening to the fear in their heads,
On Primary Day, they will do their part,
And give him their vote without any dread.

It's going to be a long race,
November's eight months away,
But we can give him a fighting chance,
By voting for him on Primary Day.

It's too soon to panic, or to give up,
Even dark horses, a very long shot,
Have been known to win the Cup...

So I'll keep following my heart,
And keep trying to do my part,
Keep the vision, no matter how far,
And I'll Follow the Berning Star.
